Gonjasufi: Debut Album ‘A Sufi And A Killer’ – 8th/9th March 2010

Gonjasufi has delivered his inimitable and enigmatic debut album “A Sufi & A Killer” which will be available 8th/9th March 2010.

Produced by Los Angeles heavyweights Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer and Mainframe, this deep and compelling collection embraces aged Eastern influences, reanimated hip-hop and vintage psychedelia – laced with Gonjasufi’s cryptic lyrics and captivating vocal delivery.

“Timeless, incredible filth” – Flying Lotus.
“Contender for album of the year” – Guardian Guide.

“In order to get the conviction behind the words, it took 30 years of a lot of frustration and despair…continual tests of faith. Day to day struggling. Bottled-up energy, then all of a sudden, the way it came out seemed perfect…it kept flowing. Continually flowing out of me.” – Gonjasufi

“I just hope this record reaches people at the point when they’re one foot out the window and looking down and that song comes on through the speakers and they pull their foot back through the windows and say “wait a minute – let me re-evaluate the situation..”. If anything I would pray that people find the ability to find themselves in the music.” – Gonjasufi

Al Cinema con… Edda Dell’orso

If you have watched Italian movies from the 1970s, you know Edda Dell’Orso, even if you’ve never heard the name. From Sergio Leone-directed masterpieces to giallo programmers starring Edwige Fenech, Dell’Orso performed her haunting wordless solo vocals over the music of maestro Ennio Morricone, as well as such less-known composers as Piero Piccioni, Luis Bacalov, Bruno Nicolai, and Armando Trovaioli.

Her work, mostly uncredited, was one of the key components that made the Italian soundtrack scene as influential and progressive as it was. Al Cinema con Edda Dell’Orso is a superb introduction to her work that touches upon her collaborations with most of the key composers of the time. The selections beautifully showcase her range, which is at times soothing (“Gott mit Uns”), eerie (“Lo Straniero”), sensual (“Il Vichingo Venuto Dal Sud”) and even spiritual (“I Bambini Ci Chiedono Perche”). She is equally capable of projecting her instrument to operatic heights (“Deserto di Fuoco”), as she is playfully cooing to a jazzy go-go beat (“Kill!”). When the music is above the norm, as in Morricone’s haunting theme melody to Once Upon a Time in the West, the record reaches impossibly gorgeous heights.

Most of the material is from lesser known movies, and it’s a testament to both the work of the composers as well as Dell’Orso that the music has a consistent quality — however offbeat — regardless of the quality of the film. Al Cinema con Edda Dell’Orso contains a total of 23 cuts and manages to even include some raw, wonderful, unaccompanied material and rehearsals, yet it’s not nearly enough. The CD is missing many of the more recognizable pieces (“Il Vizio d’Uccidere” from For a Few Dollars More, or “Faccia a Faccia” from the Sergio Sollima film) and some of the more extravagant avant-garde selections (like Morricone’s compositions for Dario Argento or the material John Zorn memorably interpreted on The Big Gundown with vocalist Shelley Hirsch). After whetting the appetite with this marvelous souffle, it would be a treat to hear composer-specific collections featuring the hauntingly sensual soprano of Edda Dell’Orso. (_ArtistDirect)

Dizz1 – 3rd Time Lucky

New Nod Navigators featuring DIZZ1. 5 sick, instrumentals with his crossover bass sound. Some of these tracks have already been getting air play from Mary Ann Hobbs and Benji B on BBC radio + biggups from the likes of Mark Pritchard (Harmonic 313).. Tip !

In 2004 the Australian turntablist and producer Dizz1 a.k.a. Dave Norris was on tour when a serious accident occurred. An unfortunate series of events caused Dizz1 to partially shatter his neck, causing him to become paralyzed from the neck down. A miracle doctor fixed his bone structure and spinal cord which, above all expectations, ended the paralyses. Long story short the lucky bugger got his feel back ! Luck was definitely on his side since a couple of years before he also managed to survive from a serious car crash.

Fast-forward to today, after some time of rehabilitation in the studio (where else?) Dizz1 entered the 3rd round and came up with a batch of serious bangers. He was invited for the Red Bull Music Academy where he met up with Om’mas Keith from Sa-Ra. The result was the early 2009 underground hit ‘We Go Ridin’, which will probably feature on his full album, somewhere in 2010.

’3rd Time Lucky’ is already the 8th establishment on the Nod Navigators imprint serving you with a nicely cooked up 5-track bass crossover for instant dance-floor mayhem. Containing:
‘Frazzled’ a Turkish delight turned into a wild-eyed monster. ‘Walkon’ delivering you the O.S.T. to that one recurring dream of being captured in a crystal made maze. ‘Somewhat?’ and ‘Here We Go Again’ are the low slung additions on which pacman practices his hip throws and street fighter 2 becomes reality to hit you in the face with a sonic boom.
Finally ‘Rirrr’ dj favorite and secret weapon is in Dizz1′s words “my halftime version of ‘Your The Voice’ by John Farnham with the Wiggles band accompaniment playing Dorothy the dinosaur at the same time. (John walked off stage after the first bar…)”.

Already supported by Benji B, Gilles Peterson and Mary Ann Hobbs and big-ups from the likes of Mark Pritchard a.k.a. Harmonic 313 !
